January
My year started at my ‘home’ church in Colne where I was delighted to serve at the first Divine Service of the year. This was a real treat for me (and scary too as I didn’t want to let the church down with a poor demonstration or philosophy) as I always feel really welcome there. I made several resolutions about my work with Spirit and decided that this year I could really serve the Higher Side by doing the things they put before me with enthusiasm (even if I was scared that I couldn’t do some of what they wanted because I didn’t really have confidence or trust enough). I served several other churches this month, along with healing & private sittings. I also gave my first private evening of mediumship of the year.
February
An interesting month as I traveled between Altringham, Romily, Rawtenstall and Littleborough serving churches. The Development Circle I run with Paul Hunt (Medium) at Colne also started again after the Christmas/New Year break. It was also very exciting to give the participants from 2007 their Graduation certificates at a social gathering – even if the first date had to be canceled because it was snowing.
March
By now Paul & I were in full swing with the new Development Circle at Colne with an interesting mixture of people at all stages on their pathway. Having a wide variety of experience in the group looked certain to keep us on our toes – I like a challenge! I also had one of my more unusual events – an Evening of Mediumship in a shop. My good friend, Jilly, had a fair trade food shop shop & decided she would like to encourage people to come out in the winter months for entertainment & a good get together. So from late 2007 she asked me to do one night a month giving demonstrations of mediumship. It’s a lot of fun, especially in a venue that is not normally associated with mediumship or events, and a nice way to pass dark winter nights. I also had lovely visits to Ashton Under Lyne and Dearnley Spiritualist Churches to do Divine Services.
April
I started this month with a visit to Keighley Spiritualist Church (the Mother Church i.e. the first one opened in the UK) to see a wonderful medium -Jean Duncan. Jean Duncan sadly passed to Spirit in October 2008. My confirmation of my ability to be a medium came through attending one of her workshops and having an opportunity to sit in a cabinet and experience a trance channeling. As always I found her service & her mediumship inspirational that evening. I also got a chance to visit New Directions as I really enjoy the speakers they put on & the informal evenings are always a great social gathering. I don’t always get time to attend regularly yet I’m sure to come away buzzing with new ideas. I also attended a very interesting & enjoyable workshop run by medium Edwin Courtney.
May
I seemed to do a lot of private sittings this month. Along with a Past Life workshop I also got asked a lot of questions as I wandered through the month about the subject of past lives. It made me wonder if I needed to do some more past life work – or if there was another work area coming towards me from Spirit. It’s only by watching the trends in the things that I encounter that I get any advanced notice when Spirit are planning a change for me. And sometimes I miss it completely and end up very surprised. Another highlight was working at Colne Church on their Psychic Supper Night. Psychic Suppers are a lot of fun as there are mediums from all over & we work at a table giving messages for a group of people. It means everyone who attends goes home with a message & also well fed. Colne always put on a huge spread!
June
I am so very lucky to be able to work with people developing their own mediumistic ability. Just seeing how much people can progress once they open up their own personal, direct link to Spirit is a real joy. So it was an especially good start to June to take a fledgeling medium, Wendy Fawcett, along to a service so that she could work with me in. Everyone has to start somewhere – although not all mediums work in public – so I was also greatful to Ashton Under Lyne Spiritualist Church for providing Wendy with the opportunity to get some experience of giving a public demonstration of her mediumship. Without the support of churches many excellent mediums would have had nowhere to develop a personal style, their linking ability and get the confidence to support people through mediumship. It was also very special to be asked to do a service at Keighley Spiritualist Church this month. I felt like Spirit World had paid me a compliment by allowing me to work in such a historic & energised place.
